SILVER INFORMATION

Sterling silver is an alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals. The other 7.5% is usually copper, and sometimes zinc. Most Sterling Silver jewelry pieces are stamped with a small "925" on a hidden part of the piece to mark its purity.

Pure silver alone is too weak and soft to be made in to jewelry. The addition of copper provides the strength that is necessary to craft silver into jewelry. Sterling silver tarnishes because of the addition of copper, while pure silver does not tarnish.

To prevent your Sterling Silver jewelry from tarnishing, it is important to store it in a closed environment away from any moisture (jewelry boxes or plastic bags are great for this). We recommend that you polish your silver every few months to keep it looking shiny and white. We sell polishing cloths in our store to assist you with this.
